At Horizons West, we are always looking at ways to further engage with the WA community. One way we do this is to partner with other organisations that are bettering the future of those close to our hearts. In 2021, we’re making this possible through our new alliance with the Nudge Foundation.

Who is the Nudge Foundation?

In a nutshell, Nudge is a not-for-profit organisation supporting people including local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to find meaningful work. Nudge engages closely with the indigenous community through traineeships and runs far deeper than most programs, offering applicants mentors, work-readiness training and ongoing support. Currently, Nudge is based all across WA, with main centres in the Perth metro area and Southwest. Since the induction of the program, 86 people have been supported with a 92% retention rate!

What does this partnership mean?

Supporting local communities is part of our DNA, so we are really excited to be joining forces with Nudge. Results of this collaboration are two specifically designed roles at the heart of our operations. One traineeship works directly with our maintenance team and is based at our Welshpool depot. This program will see the successful candidate undertake a 4-year apprenticeship in Heavy Diesel Mechanics. The other is within our team of drivers and is to be based at either Wangara or Welshpool. Graduates from this program will receive a Certificate III in Driving Operations. These traineeships are a great way to become qualified by learning on the job from those who know the ropes. You’ll earn money while gaining your qualification and get real workplace experience.

What is required to apply?

Good question. For the most part, we are looking for the following essential skills:

To apply, you should:

  • Have a Driver’s License. This is advantageous but not essential.
  • Be reliable.
  • Be mechanically minded (Heavy Diesel Apprenticeship)
  • Be prepared to clean.
  • Be physically capable.
  • Be a team player.
  • Be self-motivated and willing to learn.
  • Be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol test.

How do I apply?

What do some of the Nudge traineeships look like?

It’s always important to get a feel for what the program can offer. Although this is our first alliance, you can view some of the experiences other traineeships have had with other big brands across Perth.
