Two Weeks To Go!

There’s only two weeks to go until the Perth Craft Beer Fest kicks off at the Claremont Showgrounds on Friday, August 18th! With over 200 beers and ciders from more than 40 breweries, here’s your full rundown of what to expect:

FRIDAY FROTHIES – 18 August, 5pm-11pm (18+ only)

The place to be for Friday night drinks. We kick off the festivities with a live DJ set by Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker.

SATURDAY FAMILY DAY – 19 August, 12pm-4pm (all ages)

Entry is FREE between 12pm-4pm on Saturday for our family friendly session. Kids to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. RSVP here.

To Keep The Toes Warm

Hearty stouts, red wine, hot food, open fires and indoor pavilions are all on offer this year to keep the fingers and toes warm. Thanks to our new home at the Claremont Showground, winter blues aren’t going to stop us from getting amongst a selection of the nation’s finest brews.

Here at Horizons West, we’re so excited to have been asked to be a part of the iconic new Perth Stadium! We’ve teamed up with our old mates at Brookfield Multiplex to make sure all the incredibly hard working trades are able to get to site on time every day. We’ve accepted the challenge of shuttling the team to and from site every morning and night from 5.30am to 7.30pm. And let’s not forget just how big the project is, which means a massive 800 workers have been contracted at the point to build this iconic Perth landmark…and that number is set to rise very soon!

But the story doesn’t begin at the Stadium. Our story really begins in March 2009 when Horizons West originally teamed up with Brookfield Multiplex to build the Fiona Stanley Hospital in Murdoch. We worked tirelessly to make sure the whole team got to work on time every day and could get home after a long day’s work on site. The iconic Perth hospital opened its doors in October 2014 and now ranks among the best in the country. We’re so proud to have played a part in such an important project, and we’re so thankful for the friendship that came about from that first partnership.

The amazing team at Brookfield Multiplex have such an inspirational work ethic and eye for detail, which is why it comes as no surprise they’re in charge of building Perth’s incredible new stadium. The stadium is planned to seat over 60,000 visitors and will have a ‘fans first’ approach featuring complete Wi-Fi coverage, a 4-star Green Star rating and 2 massive 340m2 video screens that will be some of the largest in Australia! The venue will host events such as AFL, cricket and rugby, as well as major international sporting events such as the Commonwealth Games. The state of the art venue will even have LED lighting to display home team colours at night!  All in all, the Perth Stadium is set to be one of the most important and iconic buildings in the state and Horizons West is honoured to play their part.

Understandably, the project is no small feat. With a predicted 2018 completion date, the team at Brookfield Multiplex will have to work tirelessly to get the job done. Over the next year, the number of contractors required on site each day will increase from 800-1400, meaning Horizons West will have their work cut out for them every day to make sure each day runs smoothly. But we love a challenge at Horizons West, so we’ll be stepping up to the plate and doing our all to get the job done!

Horizons West is absolutely honoured to have been asked to play a part in this incredible project and to play a part in building the future of Perth. Every day on the job is a new moving experience, and that’s what we’re all about here at Horizons West. We hope to work with our good friends at Brookfield Multiplex in the future and are excited to see what the future holds for our beautiful city.

Good news – Horizons West has recently signed on with Curtin University to provide buses for its CABS service for the next 5 years! This contract will see us provide a much-needed service to students and staff of Curtin Uni in helping them get around the main campus, Technology Park and the South Perth/Victoria Park area. With this, here’s a quick rundown of what to expect with CABS and what the plans are.

Free bus service to Curtin and surrounds: Getting around Curtin and the surrounding areas of Bentley, South Perth and Victoria Park is not only easier with the CABS service, but also free! Over the three services, buses run as far north as King Edward Street in South Perth; far west as Henley Street in Como; as far East as Bedford Street in Bentley; and as far south as Waterford. As such, covering such a vast area means we can assist a large number of Curtin Staff and Students, and be of service as best we can.

Hop on/Hop off anywhere along the route: As to provide the best service possible, we offer passengers the opportunity to hop on the bus anywhere along the route, and then being able to get off the bus wherever you need to along the route. That means less walking around catering to pre-determined bus stops, and you can get where you need to go faster!

Circle Route: Our circle route around the perimeter of the Bentley campus and Technology Park is an easy way to get from one end of campus to another, so you won’t be late for class or meetings.

Room for expansion: We’re also working hard to expand our service to include more local shops and eateries. Currently, some of our routes pass the local Waterford Shops, and a few delis and corner stores so you can hop on and hop off if your stomach demands it. In the future, we hope to extend services to more food and drink precincts to help you wind down after a long day at uni.

The last month has been pretty hectic for us here at Horizons West and it’s one we’re certainly not going to be forgetting anytime soon! October saw us taking a bus full of the state’s biggest West Coast Eagle supporters all the way across the Nullarbor for the opportunity to see their favourites try to take out the Grand Final. Now sadly, our beloved Eagles missed out on the big win but that doesn’t change the amazing time which was had by all on board the GF Express! Everyone on board clad in gold and blue, had an incredible experience sharing stories about their love of the game and the excitement about being able to at least be a first-hand spectator in iconic AFL history.

The AFL season may be over for this year, but the feeling of excitement and anticipation will stay with us for a very long time- definitely until next year where hopefully we can do it all over again with both WA teams making it all the way to the Grand Final this time.

While that may be fine for any other AFL game during the season, we think that it’s just not going to cut it for the Grand Final! Why would you want to stare at the screen when you can see your favourite players in the flesh? Especially if it’s our beloved Dockers or Eagles fighting it out in the Final, who need the support of their WA fans to give them the strength to win that trophy!
Of course any die hard Fremantle or West Coast fan would do anything to see their favourites in the Grand Final, but we know that it’s not always that simple. First you have to consider getting flights to Melbourne, which suddenly triple in price and sell out ridiculously quickly, making your dream of getting to the Grand Final almost impossible.
Luckily, we have you covered! If either the Fremantle Dockers or West Coast Eagles make it into the Grand Final, we will organise a fleet of our best buses to drive across the Nullarbor, all the way to Melbourne so you can be in the stands cheering on your favourite team with all your heart. This idea started in 2013 when we took some of the most loyal Fremantle Dockers supporters to Melbourne for their favourite team’s first Grand Final appearance. Not only was it a fantastic feeling to be a part of this exciting event, but we also got to share some amazing laughs and fun times together with fellow Dockers fans, making some lasting friendships along the way.
