When we usually think about beautiful Western Australia, the common images which come to mind are sunny beaches and warm days. But that doesn’t mean that winter in WA is dull or boring! There are plenty of fun activities and events in Perth that run through autumn and winter which will keep you and the whole family entertained and more importantly: warm and dry, safe from those harsh cold days. We’ve come up with a complete guide to places around WA which will help you make the most of your winter! Check it out below!

1. WA Opera

Since being introduced in 1967, the Western Australian Opera has thrived and become the only professional, full time opera company within WA. They are planning on dedicating 2015 to the year of love, providing a wide variety of shows, which all feature this common theme. With an exceptionally talented cast and remarkable productions, a day spent at the WA opera is definitely a day spent well!

2. Winter Garden Festival

If you’re looking to have a magical winter, than this festival is definitely suited to you! Fremantle Park and all of its surroundings will be transformed into a beautiful winter wonderland, including attractions such as carnival rides, an ice rink, live music and entertainment. Running from Wednesday July 1-26th, this festival has free entry and represents everything that makes the cooler days in WA to be special.

3. Perth Good Food and Wine Show

Calling all foodies, this is the perfect event for you! From a variety of stalls showcasing new and innovative food ideas (with tasty free samples of course!) to some of the world’s top chefs hosting their very own shows and demonstrations, this event is the ultimate food heaven experience. Running from the 10-12th July at the Perth Exhibition, the show will give you some great ideas for winter warmers and more importantly a great experience despite the cool weather!

4. Perth City Snow Slide

Who says you can’t have a white winter in WA? The Perth City Snow Slide is back again this year with even more snow and even bigger slides. It’s the perfect school holidays activity for kids who will love the thrill of zipping down the icy slide into the perfect soft snow. Although this event is free for kids, you’ll still be better off booking places in advance to make sure they don’t miss out on all the fun!

5. Kids Wonderland

With fantastic events such as Kids Wonderland, the July school holidays are shaping up to be the best break ever! This event will bring you the best of kid’s carnival rides, live shows, creative youth activities, and educational exhibits. And they don’t forget the parents either! There’s plenty to do for mums and dads such as some tasty high-tea treats and even a complementary three minute massage. There’s something for everyone at Kids Wonderland!
